Block Certified: OG Mowabb Quick Strike

Holy Shit.

The OG Mowabb with the tall neoprene sock is straight hot spoon and hypodermic needle status.  The only problem is that they dropped in the dead of winter because this is a straight summer banger. Eh, not a problem… copped and stocked.

4 PEACE Music Video – START PEACE

As a follow up to yesterdays’ post, I wanted to give you folks a look at the music video that was released by 4 Peace a while back. Those of you from Boston, or at least familiar with these parts, will recognize the Stop Hand Gun Violence billboard that runs along the Mass. Pike, near Fenway Park.
Check it out, and stay tuned for info on Twice Thou’s, otherwise known as Antonio Ansaldi, clothing line. Also, look for big things from Edo. G this year, including an album with Masta Ace and the sophomore album from Special Teamz. Real hip-hop is coming back in ’09 people!

4PEACE: The origins/The future

With all the senseless violence going on in cities all across America today, it’s nice to see some hip-hop artists, otherwise considered negative influences among their communities by the general public, out there trying to make a difference in the lives of the people buying their music. This is essentially the goal of  4Peace. Recently there has been a increase in handgun violence in Boston, a problem that both city hall and the police department are trying to quell. 4Peace recognizes that this is not enough, and that action must be taken by regular citizens to help heal the communities effected by this violence and create meaningful and permanent change. Check out this short documentary about the group and the things that they are doing  for the communities around them.

Big shout out to Twice Thou and Edo G.

The Origin/The Future of 4Peace 2009 from Miguel King on Vimeo.

They’re first effort the song Start Peace impacted Boston and surrounding communities and as a result anti violence organizations as well as the Department of Justice has collaborated with 4Peace on creating video’s and music that informs urban and Gang involved youth and promotes peace in a manner that is compelling and “cool”.

Recent Pick Ups #1

Here’s a recent pair that I nabbed while at the outlets in Wrentham, MA. I actually took the trip down to check out the Polo store, hoping to find some good deals. Naturally, while down there, I had to check out the Nike and Reebok outlets just to see what they had. But when I peeked into the Saucony outlet I was psyched to spot these. I’ve always liked Saucony, especially their Shadow, Courageous, and Jazz silhouettes. And what Alife has been doing with the Shadow 6000 silhouette recently, has been crazy. It’s been torture to not be able to get my hands on any, so when I saw these I had to have ‘em. A simple white, grey and navy color way, these Shadow 6000’s feature an almost all felt upper, with a grey mesh toe box. All felt upper? Mesh toe? Please. Done deal. And for $50, it was a no brainer. More please, Saucony.

The Butcher’s Block Podcast is back!!

Frank the Butcher & Paul Mighty

I told you it would be on!

This is the first installment of the new and improved Butcher’s Block Podcast here on TBB. I am continuing the tradition of The WeeklyDrop* and created a Hip-Hop show that embodies the same spirit as WD but incorporated it into my passion of music. Don’t let the “Hip-Hop” turn you off. I understand the current state of the genre and we are here to showcase an interesting combination of songs, early samples, and breaks – always putting you on to something new or reminding you of something great.

You’re going to hear a new voice on the podcast but he is not new to music by any means. Paul Mighty is my co-host and his love for music will shine in his contribution to the show. I’ve watched him grow from an eager mid-high school kid to a grown man of many talents. He is family.

Stay tuned because we will be updating on the regular (approx every 2 weeks) but we’ll start you off with 2 bangers.

*Side note: WeeklyDrop is not dead and you might hear Jeff’s voice on the Butcher’s Block sooner than later!

(002 is the first episode… I Know, I Know, long story!)

You know how the story goes… a “new” Jordan drops, not a retro but a brand new J, and everyone gathers around it as if it was a car accident or dead baby bird wondering if they coud “do” it. Fuck it… I’ll go out on a limb. I will and I did. Case closed.
