SURROGATES – Trailer

surrogates_tpb_coverBoston is a great place to shoot a movie. For that matter, New England’s a great place to shoot a movie. However most of the films that have been shot here, feature the local stereotypes of Irish mobsters, kidnappers, pedophiles, and other unpleasant things. We’re very proud of those films, and sometimes of the struggles and hardships that inspire them. But other than those and some romantic comedies here and there, the subject matter of the films that come to shoot here, are somewhat limited. Last summer, Surrogates came to shoot in the Boston area. The film was adapted from the graphic novel by Robert Venditti and is the biggest sci-fi/action film that has shot in this area… Ever. I was lucky enough to work on it, helping to cast some parts and then continuing on to do extras casting. The film stars Bruce Willis, Rosamund Pike, Ving Rhames, and many others, including some of our local actors. The trailer looks great and it’ll be awesome to go to see a sci-fi film that was shot here, featuring our streets and people. Thanks to Jonathan Mostow, Carolyn Pickman and Meagan Lewis. Keep an eye out for Surrogates, releasing 2009.

The Road – Trailer

Here’s the trailer for The Road, adapted from Cormac McCarthy’s book, and starring Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, and Guy Pearce. It’s directed by  John Hillcoat, and it looks awesome. As I’ve said before, I’m a sucker for the post-apocalyptic, running for your life themes, so this fits right into that vein. The Road is slated to release October of 2009, so keep an eye out.

Wale – Chillin’ (Teaser)

You know Wale and Chris Robinson filmed scenes for the “Chillin” video at Concepts. Wale has informed me that the video drops Monday but here is the teaser. You see that CAMBRIDGE on his fitted? Yeah that’s us.

Peep Chedda’s theatrical debut. Its a millisecond but we are hoping it’s much bigger in the full length video!

Back in the Chi.

img00072

I was in Chi-town this past weekend for my cousin’s wedding. It was the first time in 8 years that I had been back, after living there for almost 5 years. Damn. Time flies. Just thought I’d post some photos that I took while out there. I took them on my cell phone, so please excuse the quality.

Congratulations to my cousin Cory and her husband Brad, big thanks to my good friends Trevor and Mo for the company and hospitality, and to Krabby over at St. Alfreds for showing so much love (more on him later).

My brother and Concepts family, Masspike Miles has been holding down Boston forever. Miles is now down with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music and has been reppin Boston and Concepts all over the world. Literally. From Miami to Columbia and everywhere in between. Miles was down in Miami for Memorial Day weekend doing shows with his Maybach team and the boss himself, Ricky Rawss. Peep the video below with Miles rockin our brand new block letter fitted fresh out the box. Download his new mixtape “Pursuit Of Happiness” here.

Cage x Alex Pardee

dfmcoverrelease

New York rapper Cage is dropping his second album, Depart From Me, on the independent power house Def Jux (Definitive Jux).

Cage is hands down one of the illest rappers out and is one of my current favorites. His early work on Fondle ‘em Records, Rawkus, and Eastern Conference, was a young Cage at his wildest with violence and drug use as the main inspiration for his music. When drugs turned Cage into someone he didn’t like, he quit and began the transition into a healthier life which created a more cohesive and laser focused artist. His Def Jux debut, Hells Winter, is his best work to date and was easily one of the best releases of 2005.

Cage’s past, as chronicled in his music, is as crazy as it is interesting. Born on a US / German Military base to a young mother and a drug selling / addict father who was an MP, his life was filled with abuse, drugs, and a stint in a psychiatric hospital. Actor Shia Labeouf has expressed interest in making a movie on Cage’s life with he himself playing Cage. Peep Cage’s bio here.

Cage partnered up with the incredibly talented Alex Pardee, best known for his cover artwork for the rock band The Used, for his new album art. Pardee showcased the process of creating the cover on his website. Peep below. Fucking sick.

Put you on: Smoothe Da Hustler

smoothehustler-01-big

The money stasher, gun blastin’ razor slasher-

Sometimes in Hip-Hop, something great flies by like Halley’s Comet but instead of just missing Earth, it makes an impact. It crashes, changes the delicate balance of our environment but eventually breaks down and disappears. In 1996, I heard something that I would never forget by the name of “Broken Language”. Smoothe Da Huster hailed from Brownsville Brooklyn and hit the ground running with a new style and a strong crew.

I have no doubt if he had continued with the momentum he had at the peak of his popularity, Smoothe would have continued to make some of the best music coming out of Brooklyn.  Da Hustler with his younger brother Trigger The Gambler, DV Alias Christ and the rest of the “Next Level Click” embodied Brooklyn somewhere between the Boot Camp Click and Biggie, and were arguably neck and neck (and at each other’s throats at the time) with M.O.P.

Nothing is new under God’s sun but sometimes you can take just enough from the greats and combine the ingredients in a way that has never been heard before. He had the confidence of legendary BK king (Asiatic Nobodies Equal), Big Daddy Kane, the street narratives of G Rap but the balls to experiment lyrically like a Redman with the vocal clarity of KRS-One and the loyalty to his crew like the early Wu-Tang era.

Homage has been paid to the classic “Broken Language” by a few artists but none hold a candle to Ill Bill’s “Cult Leader” off the Non Phixion album “The Future is Now”.  Peep the first few bars below:

“The cult leader, the war-monger, armed with four high-powered
firearm barometers; I visited Andromeda
The human cloner, the donate to my fam organ donor
The morbid odor of corpses lowered, the coroner
The cult leader, result needer, the skull and bones bleeder
The chrome heater, the soul eater, the tome reader
The cloak and dagger magnum packer;
convert star systems to active vacuum
The illest shit since Manson had goons…”

Smoothe Da Hustler made a tremendous impact on me as a fan and has earned a place an the Hip-Hop history books.

Go find Smoothe Da Hustler’s “Once Upon a Time in America” and Trigga’s The Gambler’s unreleased Def Jam debut “Life’s a 50/50 Gamble”.

Real recognize real. Download joints below and the Broken Language lyrics are posted for your reading pleasure… learn em, you’ll be quizzed.

Recent Pick Ups #2 & #3

dsc_0007

Been a while since I did a recent pick ups post, but I thought these two warranted a look. First is the New Balance 1300 x Alife. Love these. The leather is soft, the mesh is perfect, and the color way is dope. New Balance is always making fresh kicks and they use top notch materials. Crazy. Big up to Lauren and Lou over at New Balance for hooking me up. Thanks for the look.

Next pick up, is the Lance Armstrong Live Strong Air Max 90s. Black & yellow outsole, white & black speckled midsole. Dope. The black leather for the mud guard is butter soft, and as if that wasn’t enough, the rest of the shoe is covered with white mesh and dark grey 3M material. Oh boy. Honestly, I think this is the best Air Max 90 release since the Infareds were re-released some months back and if it weren’t for those, these would have been the best 90 release going back at least a year. If you love Air Max 90s and can get your hands on a pair of these, then do it. You won’t be sorry.

Rhyminology

termanologydj_delz-jackin_for_beatz-450x450
I might be a little bit bias, but I am going on record and saying this is one of the hottest joints I have heard so far in ’09. Term and Rhym been my people for years, and it is good to see them finally gaining some national recognition. Rhyminal is dropping his first solo cd, East Bound and Down presented by Mr. Peter Parker & Statik Selektah , with a release party this Saturday May 23rd @ Joe Angelos in Brockton MA. If you are in the area you should come through and support this kid.
